What Is Miscanthus?

Miscanthus is a Grass Feedstock
Miscanthus is a perennial rhizomal grass, known to live 30+ years.
This crop grows very efficiently, producing large amounts of biomass in a short time period.

Growing from rhizomes, miscanthus is not invasive.

Miscanthus is highly versatile, having uses in paper production, sustainable aviation fuel, renewable food packaging, animal bedding, industrial absorbents, and other industries.
Miscanthus is Hardy
Miscanthus is highly tolerant and can grow in a variety of conditions with little maintenance.
It is an ideal plant for fringe and marginal areas and can be planted in soil that is too compact for other crops, such as former coal mine sites.
Miscanthus can survive droughts and flooding which would kill other plants.

Miscanthus is Carbon Negative
Miscanthus sequesters carbon as it grows, storing more than it produces.

As grass energy crops, miscanthus and switchgrass are known to have the highest rates of carbon absorption.
Miscanthus has the highest yield and lowest carbon intensity of the lignocellulistic grass crops.
